Yeah I forgot to mention that. It's sort of an internal responsibility system. They never inspect your trailer, but if something happens or you're caught driving with something unsafe, watch out!
Same thing with vehicles in Alberta. It's very different from Ontario here. I bought a '77 Toyota Celica GT here in AB for $500. Got insurance for it ($150 for full coverage per year, no questions asked) and registered it (no inspections, no emissions, nothing).
It actually wigged me out to drive this $500 vehicle around for a second. And then I realized that if I didn't make sure it was safe, I could get charged in the event of an accident. So I put brand new brakes and suspension on the thing, new lights, etc. and made sure all the other systems were working fine. I've seen some crazy vehicles driving around Alberta and now I know why!
