i have a Scott goggle with orange-reddish tint lens, which is great for bright sunny days. but once the sun goes down, i lose all ground surface details. which is bad when im going off jumps and cant see my jumps/landings clearly.
any recommendation on brand / lens tint / model for a pair of goggles for night riding? usually in a park with big lights
Clear or yellow lens for night, although some people find that pink works well too. As for brand and model, just try some on and get whatever fits your face.
Persimmon is for bright conditions as far as I know. I had the spy soldiers with the persimmon mirror and they were very dark. I couldn't even wear them on partly cloudy days.
Oakley - Pink Iridium, HIYellow, HIPersimmon, Yellow, Clear
Smith - Sensor Mirror, Gold Sensor Mirror, Yellow, Clear, maybe get away with Rose
I'll have to dig around for my post on Spy's night lens options.
For other companies, it's basically Yellow or Clear.
I have Oakley wisdom grey polarized for bright conditions and wisdom's with the h.I. Intensity yellow lense for cloudy and night riding. Both work great for each condition
I have fire (red) mirrored for bright -> cloudy days, and an old pair of rose (no mirror) for low light, but I'm planning on buying some HIyellow or yellow to replace the old rose ones.
i have normal persimmons on my crowbars and they suit me pretty well for all conditions. maybe my local night place just has good lighting, but i've never had problems wearing them at night.
I havent had many problems with my persimmon either on overcast cloudy Oregon days, but i cant help but wonder what Hi-Yellow would be like...except its 50-70 dollars to find out for my A-Frames...I wish i could demo goggle lenses for a run or two lol.
I wore my Hi-Yellow on an overcast Oregon day at hood(like it is 90% of the winter) and they are great. IMO, either the hi-yellow or pink iridiums are great for Oregon/Washington mountain conditions. I have a pair of black iridiums too and have only used them a few times in the spring
for those that ride in oregon conditions... how effective are the black iridiums? i see people are using the yellow or pinks but doesnt the black yield more contrast? -dont know much about google shades for specific uses for any consise advice would help as well..
yellow or clear, end thread. and yes yellow is that great, def worth it.
