Hey guys. I've looked at all my options, and narrowed it down to two potential choices. I'm 5'7", 130 lbs, and I'm really new (but I have gone out a couple times, so I know I like the sport). I want a board that can do it all, maybe with a freeride emphasis. The debate is whether to to buy this:

My friend claims buying used is okay, and because I'm new I won't be able to tell the difference except in my wallet, but I have heard other things, and I'm not sure buying used is a good idea. (If I go new, he'll probably make fun of me, but I just have to deal with that.
In addition, is there any way to check a used board to see how much damage it's sustained?
If neither of these is a good choice, I could be convinced to get a new SL, an Attack Banana, or a Heritage, but I'm more towards these. Don't hesitate to post any other suggestions (although I think I would prefer a sintered base with how much riding/progressing I want to do).
