Did you rent board for all those years? I don't think you can go wrong with the Custom, or Custom X if you want something stiffer and less geared for park. I think you could benefit from trying to demo some boards though (not that many demo days in Maine though.) For the Maine ice, of all the boards I have tried, my 2 top preferences for ice are Lib Tech (TRS)/Gnu (Riders Choice) and Never Summer (SL).
Thanks for the welcome! It's great to see another Mainer!
I grew up in Presque Isle and spent a LOT of time at Bigrock in Mars Hill when I was younger. Went to school at Maine Maritime Academy and now live in Old Town. I bounce back and forth between Sunday River, Sugarloaf, and Bigrock now.
I either borrowed friend's extra set-ups or rented for the years that I didn't have a board. I'd say last year was my first year when I snowboarded almost the entire year and my skill level went WAY up when I was able to focus solely on snowboarding.
I have a week long trip booked for Park City, UT in mid-January so I could try to demo some stuff while I was out there, but I'd really like to have something before then. Thank you for the info on Lib Tech and Never Summer boards, I'll give them a look.
