Its not prudent to upgrade if it rides good and you enjoy it. But nothing wrong with having a brand new board either. I'd personally save the money and put it towards more gear like socks, goggles, gloves, wax, layers, pants, jackets, helmet, lift tickets, etc. But that's just me.
