Hey guys, I'll be honest and say that I'm new to snowboarding. I went for the first time last season and rode for 3 days. I want to start going more so I decided to get my own gear. I'm about 6'1" and weight a buck 75. I was thinking about gettin a 159 Ride Agenda (2009) with 09 Union Force bindings. What do you think?
Union Forces are great, but the agenda... are you looking at freestyle riding(park)? because thats a beginner freestyle board and if you are looking at mainly boarding the park i would go slightly smaller in length.
also seen as you are new to snowboarding, what is your shoe size?
I'm basically looking at both freestyle and freeride right now, but I'm more interested in freestyle boarding. I rode a 159 rental board the first time I went and it seemed to work great. You think it would be a good size since i'm just starting out? I was thinkin that if I got into freestyle more then I could invest in a better board, poissibly a shorter one. I rode in size 10 boots one day and switched to 10.5 the next. They both worked fine but the 10.5 boots were a little more comfy.
You are close to a mid-wide board with 10.5s depending on stance. If you want a do everything board, look at all mountain boards with a flex of 5-6. Some 7's may work but make it harder starting. I'm kind of in the same spot as you.. pretty new. But I've done the research and that's my findings. Each board make/model will be a bit different. I ride wide boards b/c I have 11.5 boots. For my size weight I should be using a 165-168 (or bigger) based on charts, but I'm going with smaller boards for now.. 160-163
If you want to do more park look for more flex and more of a stright freestyle/jib board.
Check out these boards (just suggestions at all mountain freestyle boards):
Rome Agent
Ride Antic
GNU CHB or Riders Choice
More stright freestyle:
Rome Machine
Rome Artifact
Captia Stairmaster/Scaremaster
LOTS of other choices out there and others will chime in also..
I recommend a GNU, its what I learned on and is a good freestyle free ride board, the CHB that is, its also still on sale at Sierra for 50% off. the forces are great I have a pair on my bataleon and love them
I know Im a bit of an exception, but Im about 185 and I ride a 155cm board so 159 might be a bit long for you
If you felt good with the 159 than go for it, I know one very good rider who started with 159 when he was 16 and he still rides it and he's 20 now. I would 100% go for a midwide board, I have 10.5 and I have a mid and it's so much more stable.
hey everyone, thanks for the advice and suggestions. I keep hearing great things about the forces so I'll be gettin those. I was wondering what width is considered midwide?
Shorter boards = more control, I'm 6'6" 210lbs and I ride a 159 and a 156, I prefer the smaller board because it's agile and easy to learn on. I suggest nothing larger than a 156 for you, as far as the type of board it's what u feel comfortable on, goto your local hill on a demo day and try as many as you can.
lol no local hills here, I live in nebraska unfortunately. I'm gunna look at some shorter boards tho. seems like going a little shorter will only make things easier for a beginner.
the destroyers are real solid deck, sounds like a good fit for your size also.
