Default Review of a 2009 Rome Riff: wide board to attack the mountain

Board: Rome Riff
Size: 158

Bindings: Flow NXT-ATís
Stance: 15, -15 and 23Ē wide

Boots: Old and soft Burton Motoís (fit like a glove)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

So Iíve been looking for something to replace my Deuce as the bolts have been pushing though the bottom and itís got a fat crack on the tail (har!). Iíd demoed some Never Some boards (hated them and the reverse camber) a few Burtons, and the Rome Slash. I loved the Slash and how it handled everything except riding switch. Looking though the Rome quiver, the Riff seemed like the board for me, as it was a true and total twin. I called all over and no one had one to demo. But Sierra Snowboardís sale was running out so I took a deep breath and hoped it rode as good as the Slash.

My first ride on the board was sweet. Itís my first ďhigh endĒ board and it was like strapping gooey lady love to your feet. The board was playful and responsive. My first nollie tossed me; I was ready for the pop and liveliness of the board. An ollie to manual is effortless, nose press butters are liquid, even if I can only do a 270 in the park, the board really comes alive, with mild forgiveness to assist you, but not to the point of being sloppy. Itís more board than I can currently use in the park, but Iím working to change that.

At speed, I have not found the breaking point. No chatter as of yet to report, but only did a few blacks as the board was so much fun I was hanging out with my special lady friend just messing around. Even in shin/knee deep powder the board did great. I could bomb a blue, ollie off a roller and just fly.

This board is fantastic. It is so much fun anywhere, especially a day after a storm and ducking into trees and hiting those natural features. the whole mountain is a park for me (or I'm trying for that!) and its soaked up everything I've thrown at it. Itís also nice that it isnít a popular board, which I kinda dig. Slap a Fist Full of Neutrals sticker on the board and go for it.

5 out of 5
