Yeah try to stick to January, though it is usually extremely cold in Banff for Jan. This season we had some good dumps in Jan but there was a large cold snap for a few weeks that really sucked, it was -20 max, -40 min for like 2 weeks straight. There isn't much you can do to avoid that though, just keep your fingers crossed. Feb-Mar in Banff are a much more safe bet for better temps & better snow, but that's just Banff can't speak for the rest.
