Did anyone not see this coming? I honestly think it's the right move for him. Superpipe is by far the best known event in snowboarding by the casual viewer and SW is probably the only rider most of them can name. His name and brand are based off of dominating that event. There's little for him to gain by competing in slopestyle. He wouldn't be the favorite and there's a very good chance he wouldn't win gold. SW dropping out of slopestyle is hardly a story, but it would be a story if he didn't medal.
It's the first event, it's a chance to put your mark on history. Of course has plenty to gain. But not when 3 riders have been injured and almost all of them have complained that the course is overbuilt.
