Call and complain. You can probably get flight or atleast baggage fees reversed, and they definetly will replace the item.
Or, just go through the proper channels being understanding and polite first and see how that goes. You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Those people are quite used to people calling and bitching at them. You'd be surprised what a bit of genuine politeness and understanding can get you sometimes when you're dealing with people who are accustomed to seeing people at their worst.
