I suggest the shell option too. More warm/cool options. Most days a base layer and R1 fleece our enough warmth. Sometimes a heavier fleece. I do have a heavy HH parka for single digits though but I've had that forever.

There are many good companies, burton, OR, patagonia, volcom, etc. Most are on sale now too. I recently picked up an OR 3l gortex shell for $200
