Israel is surrounded by countries with militaries or quietly supported paramilitaries that have flat out said they want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, and are actively seeking nukes to do the job. Of course they're going to be a little on edge, you would be too. Israel is not the bad guy here - but neither is Palestine.
Not to excuse what Israel's doing, but if the Palestinians want aid to arrive they should stop smuggling weapons into Israel with humanitarian aid shipments and stop deploying said weapons to schools and hospitals for use against Israel, and recognize Israel's right to exist as an autonomous state.
If the Israelis want the Palestinians to stop launching these rockets, they should take the Arab countries up on the peace initiative deal instead of building new settlements just to show the Arabs they're not interested in pulling back, and recognize the Palestinians right to exist as an autonomous state.
If the UN wants it to stop, they should act like they actually want it to stop instead of relying on paper resolutions to stop rockets, willie-petes, bullets, suicide bombers, and other war crimes on BOTH sides. I should know, I've shot at paper targets before... they aren't very good at stopping bullets. The only thing the UN's been good at regarding this entire mess is showing both Israelis and Arabs that there will be no real repercussions to anything done in that region.
