My father and I bought boards in April and we were waxing them last week when we noticed some tarnishing on the metal edges of the board. We've always stored them in a dehumidified unfinished part of our basement. Is this normal? Or is there something we can do to prevent rust/tarnish?
1). You can buy boards with stainless edges
2). You can put a little wax on the edges in the off season if the edges are not stainless, this will prevent rust.
3). You can ignore the rust/oxidation, it's a cosmetic issue, no effect on performance.
I recommend #1, or #3, unless you're a real DIY type, then go with #2.
