Freebording, Longboarding and Surfing

So the season's over… and like a lot of people on these forums, i'm looking for something to give me my board fix during the summer.

My brother is big into skateboarding, and i've tried it, however, I feel it's less about the ride and more about the tricks - which is great and all (I mean, don't get me wrong… there are days during the season where i'm a complete park rat) however, I feel as you lose a lot of that free feeling you get while you're snowboarding.

I was wondering what everyone recommends when it comes between these three sports. I've never tried any of them, (and want to try all of them) however, at least when it comes to longboard and freebords, right now i have to make a decision.

For those of you who longboard, is it anything like snowboarding? The carving and pumping reminds me of a Ripstick (i've played around on those - they're actually quite fun) and it looks like it's handy to get from point A to point B, but how difficult is the learning curve? It seems like a good medium between the three (the ability to ride on flats, with the ability to carve like a snowboard) minus the ability to skid.

Surfing is separate - i'll probably rent a 9 foot foam board sometime during the summer and get my friend to teach me. I've got a lot of time to kill until next season, why not?
