It doesn't I hope!

I've never detuned a board before and everywhere I've looked says it is a good idea to detune the tip and tail. After taking a file to the edge, I'm supposed to smooth it out, right? Maybe burs was poor wording, but I'm basically wondering if I need to smooth the edges after taking a file to the tip and tail, and if there is anything I could use instead of a gummi or diamond stone if it does need to be smoothed out. Hopefully that made sense
