Default Lining up to hit a rail

I just started doing rails. Im having a hard time lining up the board even to do just a 50 50 grind. I either cut left and right so much to line up that Im loosing to much speed or I just catch the first few feet and my angle brings me right off it. Any tips? BTW I had a bad spill today doing a rail. I completely missed the line up and went a few inches to the left of the rail. I tried to slow down and ended up turning right into the rail and flipping over it.
