IMO, it's complete bullshit. It's nice to wax your board before putting it away so you're ready to go when it snows, but Ptex doesn't evaporate and neither does wax.
Being that you live in a highly humid environment, you may want to leave wax on it (on the edge too) so that it doesn't rust.
