I would say 9 out of 10 times you are better off buying a board at the end of the year for the money savings. Usually the only difference is the topsheet. There are a couple of exceptions:
1. You have to be careful about size availability at the end of the year
2. When they do make changes, it's sometimes pretty huge (rocker/camber designs recently)
3. Sometimes the new topsheet is pretty damn rad
