Default How to control speed on ice

Kinda related to my last thread, but hoping to get more details.

Anyone have tips for controlling your speed on icy days? Everyone tells me you are supposed to ride ice as straight and low as possible. Speed-checks are BAD ideas. So how do you keep from flying down the hill?

Last season was my first. I went 12 - 15 times. I can carve really well with a good rhythm on regular snow and I ride powder just fine. Jumps and black diamonds can be fun too. Ice just freaks me out big time.
