1) Is there any way to get discounted tickets?

2) Any place to stay "near" the mountain for a cheapish price but not a dump?

I normally just go with a group and don't have to worry about planning but going with a few friends after another trip. It will be 4 of us and prefer two hotel rooms or 2 bedrooms
