Well.. I am driving 11.5 hours to ride. I couldn't find anyone to ride with so I am just traveling/riding alone at this point. I have a decent "snowboard-bum" vehicle so that is always an option
I obviously would prefer finding somewhere to stay or splitting hotel with someone but I don't really want to wake up to a missing kidney or all my gear stolen.
Where are you driving from?
Where the heck ya coming from? thats fucking nuts to drive that far by yourself but good for you for making that trek. We took a 7 hr trip to kelowna last year and that was not a pleasant trip and there was 10 of us in 3 trucks(all had 4x4 and winters too), the road conditions were pretty intense and we lost count with the amount of cars in the ditch. The forecast around here looks pretty clear so roads shouldnt be too bad but storms can happen pretty fast. We had a mini snowstorm yesterday that lasted maybe an hour or so and that jammed things up real nice.
6 hrs is a long drive for only a partial hill. Sunshines not going to be fully open and the chairs that they normally open first will be some very short runs. Should be a good time as long as you know what to expect. I've been reading some good things about lake louise so maybe consider that place too. Calgarys normally a pretty boring city but I can't complain with the amount of hills within a 3-4 hr drive.
Open day has been moved forward to Thursaday. Should be some good stuff up there but keep in mind it is early season so dont expect the world. I think they will have 4 chairs open, Standish, Strawberry, Wolverine and Wawa.
I was thinking Sunshine Friday and Louise on Saturday. I don't really know what I will be doing Sunday yet
If you are looking for someone to ride with, message me on here and we can meet up and ride somehow.
Im heading to Louise from Edmonton. SSV just isn't worth it opening day, and I am banking on LL opening some more terrain before Saturday to try to steal some SSV customers.
In terms of driving, come winter I normally get up at 4am, drive to SSV or LL from Edmonton then drive back that night.
I was up yesterday for opening. They have heaps of snow and the runs that were not groomed were above the knee. I only got about an hour there but I will be back on Sunday if the temps don't go to crazy!
ya i was there all day, i was really surprised how good it was, they opened more and more through the day too. The trees off wawa above the lodge opened later in the day. saw some ppl with core shots lol, my base def got more scratches but nothing major.
Yeah I clipped a few stumps and fallen branches etc. Always an issue on opening day. After the weekend everything will be compacted so the next snowfall will cover everything up.
a lifty told me today that standish will be running tomorrow.
