Default Chips on board. - computer

I read the title of the other thread 'chips on board' and my first thought was of computer chips, don't know why? I do a lot of running, using the nike+ system and recently upgraded to a garmin forerunner. These things track my pace, elevation change, lap time, max pace, average pace, total distance, etc..and automatically upload it into an easy to use application when connected to my laptop. So that got me thinking...

What if a snowboard had a chip in it that could record max speed, distance traveled, average speed, max g-force of high speed turn or stop, how quickly you rotate on spins, max air time, etc...and you could just upload it at night when you got home.

Would this be more a novelty or actually useful to anyone? I know with running it's almost essential to reaching performance goals.
