I am going to tahoe for a week. What is the best place to ride at. I am interested in big mountian riding and beginner parks. Just started riding park last season. I am staying in Genoa so Heavenly will be the clostest resort so I will go there at least once. I plan on riding Sunday Wed, Thursday, maybe one more day depending on $$$. Any suggestions would be great. I am riding by myself on Sunday and some friends from back east on Wed thursday.
Be there this weekend
Well being that's there is no snow heavenly is open with limited coverage, Sierra isn't open yet, Kirkwood has a few runs open, but right now you won't experience much big mountain or powder riding here.
Yea brother peice of advice for the future, try to not come to Tahoe until like after Christmas and New Years (not only the busiest but crappiest conditions...USUALY thats not always true) If conditions where prime and transportation wasent an issue id say cruise over to North Star, that's my favorite mountain (doesn't help i live and work there) out there besides Alpine when its just crapping out snow and 267 + 80 are closed (09/10 season...me and my buddy where one of the few people on the hill....E.P.I.C.)
yea the best place for park right now would be heavenly, they had the park closed the past 3 days and are opening it back up tomorrow so it should be pretty legit. the mtn riding is alright right now but really nothing crazy and def no pow.
At least somehting is open. It will should be ok for the guys coming from the east coast. better than nothing. What are some touristy things to do down there?
i like going to mont bleu and gambling all my money on quarter horse races and 2 dollar black jack. if you can keep your quarters long enough youll get free drinks from the drink ladies.
not that i know of, dont really play craps though, one of the things i wanna learn soon. the 2$ blackjack is on the machines so its not like the regular table games.
how's the conditions at northtahoe now? i'm looking at the webcams and they still look kinda shitty...i'm heading there in about 6 weeks....hopefully it'll be worth it...!??!
Conditions are horrible right now, everywhere is man made groomers and park riding, although some weather blogs are starting to notice a shift in the pattern, so hopefully in the next few weeks things change, but if you not coming for another 6 weeks you have a better chance of having better conditions, shoot it's tahoe it could dump 10 feet in one week once the storms start coming in.
ya it's fucked...even up here in canada we're not getting any snow either...mountains are all good, but in the local cities there is slim to no snow when usually we have like 6 feet easy in a day or 2
I forgot to report back on the trip to Heavenly Valley. I boarded 2 days and it was all man made snow but coverage was good on the runs that were open. The park was good. I rode the small features and saw some really good riders throwing down huge spins, they were very impressive. My friend from the east coast said it was way better than where he rides in Virginia. Lot longer runs. The snow police was a bit weird telling you to slow down. Dont have that at Mt Hood. Every thing was bare off the main runs. Overall a good time riding. Mont Blu Casino was fun also thanks for the tip.
Question:
Once the first major dump happens, how long does it take the resorts to open all the runs? A day or two of grooming?
