Hey all. I think it might be time for me to move on from my 5 year old Option camber board and try the new tech of a hybrid rocker/camber board, but with all the choices out there now I'm not sure what to go with. I'm 5'8" and 155 without gear, 8.5 boot. Current board is an Option Kevin Sansalone 157 and I can handle it pretty well, the only downside is that I feel like I am so preoccupied making sure I don't catch an edge that I am hesitant to try anything new.
I was in Jackson Hole last week and demoed a NeverSummer SL, but it was a 158, which I think was a little long for me. Even with all the snow they had, I had a hard time keeping my edge in the snow when turning, especially toe side. My experience with that board might have been completely different if it had been a 155, but as it was I was a little underwhelmed. Anyway, I don't really want to have more than one board and I don't spend a lot of time in the park. I like to ride pow when I can find it, tree lines, and groomers too. Basically I would like a board that's a little more confidence inspiring as far as catching an edge is concerned but still has good edge holding ability...if that's possible.
Right now I'm still considering the NeverSummer SL but in a smaller size, as well as the Arbor Coda and the Lib Tech TRS (or something else from them). Any good suggestions for boards I should consider and why? I'm probably going to try to demo a couple more before I buy but I would like to narrow down my choices before I start demoing everything in the shop. Sorry for the long post but thanks for the help!
Id step up to tge proto ct if youre thinking a neversummer. Evo if you plan on spending more than 50% in the park. I ride about 80% park wish i had the evo but live the proto when im shredding blacks. This is only my first year riding but i can definately reccomend the proto ct. Detune the
Contact points and put an 88 degree tune on the rest and throw some one ball jay graphite wax on it and you can go anywhere do anything only my opinion
I still regularly ride and love my two top of the line Options from 2004 and 05...they are built like tanks, been more durable than the gnu or skate banana that I later obtained...and trashed...and gave away. Those old Options are more demanding of a rider. For charging, snap and pop response and holding a line at mach...they are damm fine boards that were pressed in Vancouver and with excellent material. However my next board will be something with c2btx design for a bit more relaxed ride.
I hear you man. I have no intention of giving my up Option...I love the board, just find it not too forgiving anytime I leave the ground and don't land perfectly. It makes it not very rewarding for me to try and leave the ground very often. I guess I should have been more specific when I said I don't want more than one board. I guess I will look at some C2BTX boards.
Ok so after doing a little more researching and trying to get up to speed on all the different choices out there, I think I have narrowed it down to either the NS Proto CT or the Lib TRS. Leaning a little more towards the TRS but I'm not sure yet.
Put the Coda back in there. If I had the option of any boards in the world for what you described, out of in line 2012 it would be Signal Omni, Arbor Coda, or the Flow Drifter.
2013... I am loving my Signal OG Flat. So solid, though mine might be a little tweaked than production...
Anything with rocker will pretty much shift your weight to the center for carving, it drives either under foot or between the feet.
Coda base the best grip and POP but is less durable than the other two.
Drifter is the cheapest but still really solid.
Omni kinda fits in between, its really versatile and will feel more like camber than the other two and in my experience Signal bases are super durable and super fast.
I am looking for something similar to the OP. I like the look of the coda but I have heard so many people talking (not just on here) about the durability issues. The flow looks good. I am also looking at the Rome agent rocker. Have you ridden it Nivek?
I have a couple of freeride boards that do well in pow and I really want a more surfy mainly rocker board to play around with and do more freestyle. I do ride mostly pow but like to play around in it and on the way to it.
go for it. keep in mind that the proto will be softer than that sl you demoed. and a smaller sl will be softer than that sl you demoed of course. but i don't think you can go wrong with either. i really like my legacy. also, you said you felt like you had trouble getting your edge in, it took me a while to get used to the new shape of the board. i had the same thing switching from a regular camber, but after a few days, i won't be going back.
Yeah I wasn't sure if the toe edge issue was due to the board shape, length/stiffness, or the boot/binding combo and subsequent heel lift I was dealing with. Maybe all of the above. My original thought was to just grab a 155 SL and I hadn't even considered the Proto, but after reading up a bit I think I want to give it a shot. NS sure is proud of it though...$540!
Alright so I pulled the trigger on the 154 Proto CT. Can't wait to get it on the mountain for a few days and try it out!
