Only the most basic of board skills translate across the sports (I say board skills specifically, because advanced aerials have plenty of gymnastics in common, but are not so much board skills), in particular just the comfort of the stance. Hiking is going to be much better for your actual muscles. Longboarding is just fun. Yea u can hike all ur runs, but u can get rides to the top of stuff too

Its funny we used to "longboard" 20 years ago on decks we made ourselves or even on normal freestyle decks, we called it "downhilling". Longboarding is surfing.
