Biggest reason vehicles are designed the way they are is because of assembly. Torque bits, security screws, hex head nuts, Allan wrenches, exc are all things done to keep Joe Schmo from working out in the garage. Things like this, spark plugs being in fucked up places, body parts on top of frame bolts, and other stuff like this are done because ease of assembly. All these parts are made in different factories and then thrown together at another so the engineers and designers throw it together in a way that makes for the quickest production to save time and money. They don't care about the next guy who has to work on it.
