There is nothing in the Bible to indicate that the span of a day used to create the earth was literally 7 24-hour periods. Each "day" could have represented a 1 billions year time-span for all we know.
The rub comes from the following verse: 2nd Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Christians like to take that verse literal when it was meant to be nothing more than poetic embellishment making a statement essentially meaning that God is outside of time and space. That doesn't actually mean that God's calendar is built off of thousand year days. Besides, Siri on His iPhone would get really jacked up if that were the case.
