Yep, they geared it tall because the 1L already has way more torque than a 600. If it had a shorter first gear and you had a twitchy throttle hand it'd be lights out...

Here's me trying my bike out at Toronto Motorsports Park. There's a boring section at the start of run 2 so fast forward past that. And for those that will say a 10.7 is slow, thanks professor, I was having fun on a bone stock 2005 R1 and was just trying to improve on my times without breaking the bike or myself. Mission accomplished! The speedo is in kph and the light that keeps flashing on the right is the shift light, somewhere around 11,000 rpm.
