i am sad to think Mr Mooz, that the problem isn't one that can be levelled at the democratic process or systems of government, but to the demand for convenience coming from the electorate; ie us!

for many years politics was unnecessarily over complex, jargon rich, boring and ultimately frustrating for the citizenry. power was afforded to the ruling elite in that public interest was completely disengaged.

now in the time of info access being so immediately available on your desk top anywhere, (instead of going to a library to find an obscure journal or awaiting a daily news report by radio or TV) plus having an ever growing and retrospective archive of all that came before it, people are able to make genuinely informed decisions.

in addition to this, the polarity of politics; 'left' / 'right' / 'center' and all variations in between, allow for a 'sound bite' appreciation of who is who and therefore in general (and convenient) terms, what it means to feel such and such a way.

and of course, as seen thru gangs and footy hooligans over here, such identity lends a sense of kinship with other humans who would otherwise be complete strangers. and in this, there is comfort.

the two party system exists because of us and we are disinclined to see this change!

but have hope.... apparently this is an election campaign that has seen the biggest public interest EVER! and that is what democracy is supposedly all about. if from this public interest more people feel like you, it will inspire more 'independent' candidates to stand next time. afterall, ultimately such candidates are mere mortal humans like you and I!

i look forward to reading up on the policies of the Bovine Party come 2012!
