Yeah, Moose do injure more people than bears. Part of this is due to the fact that most sane people have a very healthy, instictual fear of a bear whereas they don`t have that fear of Moose and don`t give them the space and respect they deserve.

Back in my Air Force days, abuddy and I floated the Chena River from the Granite Tors trail head all the way into downtown Fairbanks in a canoe. We took 4 days to do it. On one of the days, we came around a bend and there was a cow Moose belly deep in the water to our left grazing on aquatic plants and there on the right back was junior. There was no way in hell we were going to float in between them, so we made a frantic ditch for the shore on mama`s side of the river and waited untill she finally crossed back over to junior.

That trip was also a bit creepy because the dog salmon were running and the river was thick with grizzly bears..we saw at least a dozen on that trip; all fishing for Salmon. I was glad they were occupied on the fish and paid us little attention. Every night (it was August so it actually got dark at night) on that trip we would lie back by the fire of driftwood on a sandbar and watch the northern lights dance and listen to the Wolves singing. It is Alaska that started my love of wolves...what an awesome creature. It pisses me off to see the ariel hunting of them up there...
