You can base weld it and it should be fine. Ptex candles will not hold for very long. Probably not even a day. You can buy metal grip repair string at Tognar and do it yourself. You'll need to get the Ptex Iron to use it. Stuff works pretty well. Make sure that you cut away the excess Ptex hanging off your board and iron that shit in good. Plane it off (Versa planer, something else you'll need) and you're good to go. Stuff works very well. Though with your size of a gouge, it may not also hold. Best bet would be to take it into the shop and get a proper base weld. Done right, there should be no reason it wouldn't hold. I've had several gouges like that base welded over the years. Not problems with them holding. Well until I hit another rock and made a bigger hole. Such is life though.
