Not a big deal at all. Did my non-restricted course one weekend, applied for and got my PAL in the mail. Did the restricted course the next spring, applied for the RPAL and got the usual phone call: "You're not a serial killer/rapist/divorcee who just lost their job are you?" and that was it. I think I had to put personal references down to get it but I can't remember. It wasn't a big deal.
Much cheaper in Alberta vs. Ontario or other commie provinces.
Now the ATT was another issue. In Ontario my ATT only covered going to and from my particular home range, or any other range for a sanctioned competition, most direct route, do not deviate from your course, etc.
The Alberta ATT is good for transporting to ALL ranges, gunsmiths/shops, and border crossings (airports included). We're more gun friendly here for sure...
