Fifth season coming up, on my 4th board, and I've never detuned a board. If you are a total park rat and do nothing but hit rails and boxes, detuning will lower your chance of catching an edge on the feature if you put a little too much pressure on your leading edge. But for actual shredding, it's not a sharp edge that causes you to catch an edge. When you catch an edge in snow it's because you dropped the leading edge into the snow, and it wouldn't matter if you had completely rounded edges -- you're going DOWN!

I think to a certain extent, detuning edges is something "everyone" does because "everyone" is doing it.

Coffee is your friend. Everyone else is an acquaintance.
