will a regular edge tuner work for magne?

also,this video talks about a "gummy stone" (at around 3:53).
is it really necessary to use, or is it fine if i leave that to a proffesional waxer/tuner to do for me every once in a while? or will i need to do that whole procedure after every edger tune?
