This thread may end up having to be moved to the politics section, but what the hell.

Regarding the original question, the evidence is overwhelming that the planet is warming up. The denialists have gone through a series of rear-guard actions, but they are now in the main grudgingly admitting that warming is indeed happening, but are now claiming that it isn't human-caused. There's a news item on physorg.com this week that says different, btw.

As for the oil-sands people, this debate is pretty much divided along political lines, with the right wing almost unanimous that AGW is a myth. That's because reacting to AGW, i.e. doing something about it, conflicts with right wing ethics about untrammelled capitalism.
