They will get something open for christmas if it is humanly possible but they won't spend too much in the way of resources getting much opened before that if mother nature isn't being cooperative. I would pray for an early dump of snow. Looks like temps aren't forecast to get in the negatives until the beginning of December so you will have to wait until then to see how it goes. On the plus side it won't be busy until Christmas week assuming they manage to open. They will likely only have some of the hill open though.
The 30th of november? Unless the forecast changes significantly I think that is unlikely. All the snowmaking equipment in the world won't help if temps don't get below zero. However there is a high liklihood that Blue will pull something off before the Christmas start which should bring some hope to a dec 19 or 20 start. If mother nature doesn't coopertate with some natural base though it may be limited to the centre hills.
Last year their target was to open Dec 10th but it was more like a week before Xmas that they actually opened. Dec 19/20 will be a crapshoot, could be good by then, who knows.
Last year they only had a couple runs open till boxing day as I recall, then got a big dump of snow on the 26th, and that opened everything up within a day.
Don't want to put a downer on your enthusiasm, ( keep doing that Snow Dance ) but mother nature is not co-operating.
This weekend and into early next week, daytime highs are 9C to 11C ( that is 48F to 51F ) with some rain for Sunday, Monday & Tuesday for the Collingwood / Barrie area. This kind of weather will put a serious dent in any progress that the snow making crews might have made.
When I was in Wasaga for work Friday (the 30th) there was still snow to the top of my winter work boots and squalling off and on... On my way back I saw Blue with decent snow (fully covered base). Hopefully this mild spell won't get rid of it all, if the nights are atleast -2 they will turn on the guns
I was there this weekend, they have definitely been running the guns on the silver bullet runs, I think under the guns there was a good two feet of snow but in between ground was nearly baremand it was 12 C and raining when I left sunday afternoon. By Wednesday it's supposed to go back to zero, so not much melting after that I expect.
well we are expecting snow here tonight in Barrie, so maybe Collingwood will get some too. Supposed to be -3ish for tomorrow and be cold till friday according to forecasts, but it'll probably end up being day by day for any forecasts longer than 3 days... :dunno:
Blue's explanation is that grooming and opening the trails before an insufficient base had been built would compromise the longevity of the base over the season. They wanted to give the best chance of the longest possible season.
When I passed by moonstone en route to Victoria harbor yesterday, there were ppl on the hills...
