I think the glorification of guns and the way they're portrayed in media contributes to this type of shit. There's no real educated, unbiased views. The majority of the news media preaches gun fear. The majority of TV/movie gun portrayal is unrealistic at best and downright irresponsible at worst. The firearm handling on TV and in movies is cringe inducing for responsible gun owners. Gun safety is out the window and wanton carelessness is the common theme. Plus, it just doesn't give a good perception of what a bullet does. You can't dive behind a car door or a desk or a wall and be safe from a bullet. A bullet will fly through that shit like a knife through hot butter. Even frangible bullets designed to break up upon impact will go through several layers of sheet rock first.
There probably needs to be a 4 pillar approach to the problem. Gun control would only be one pillar, but a necessary one.
