Thanks for all the thoughts on this guys.
My initial thought was to have him pick out the board himself with my help, but his wife really wanted to surprise him.
I ended up finding a 2012 K2 Lifelike for a really good deal so I had his wife pull the trigger. At $210 brand new, I figured we couldn't do much better, and he can return the board if he thinks he'd rather have something else. Plus, it was so cheap he will feel better about getting new bindings which I think he'll need.
I was leaning towards a 2013 Raygun until I found the deal on the lifelike.
I am hopeful that the flat camber will be real stable and allow him to progress while still being more floaty in powder than his old camber board.
Thoughts?
