I guess it depends on how much of a pay cut you'd have to take, but make sure that you have enough money to even continue enjoying snowboarding.

...If you stayed in MI with better pay, could you afford some trips to other locations (CO, UT, Tahoe, etc.)? To expand on that, you should try taking a few trips to some places to see some bigger resorts and get a feel for things. Just my opinion... good luck.

Thanks for the considered replies! Without going into too much detail, one of the "serious" financial considerations is that technically,.. this would be a promotion of sorts!

I am permanent part time where I am at right now. So the pay is better, but I don't get enough of it! This full time position is way more hours, but might be as much as $2-$5 less an hour! The very few FT positions that do occasionally come open here are bid on & placed based on seniority! Although I have been with the company 10 years, last time I checked, in our station I am 5th from the bottom out of 30-50 guy's in seniority! 25-30+ of those guys are PT also!!

There is virtually NO chance of getting full time where I am at now! I would have to change jobs (...not an option) or move within or out of the state for that to happen! If I'm going to consider a move, I'm going to move to someplace I can stand to live!! Preferably with more & better snowboarding opportunities!

This is one of the few postings I've seen that even came close to the kind of move I would prefer to make. It's not my ideal situation,.. that would be moving back to CA for FT because first, I've lived there before, CA. has tons of variety in climate, and outdoor activities! and not the least of which is because a move there would actually increase my hourly pay! (...although not nearly as much as you would imagine going from suburban Detroit to say Orange Co. CA.!)

(...sigh) This will probably wind up being an exercise in wishful thinking, but I thought I should at least look into it! I have lived in and visited some very beautiful places in the Mts. and along the CA. coast! Been to Big Bear, & Shasta!,.. Oregon & Seattle WA. Mnt ST. Helens (...after the '80 eruption!) I've driven cross country & back 2.5 times! I've seen Jackson Hole & Yellowstone in the fall! Loved the look of the rock & scenery as I climbed out of SLC Utah into the Wasatch Mts.

Not that MI. is dull, drab or uninteresting,.. but I DO really love the mountains!! That has been true, even before I ever imagined snowboarding on them! I enjoyed riding motorcycles on Mtn. roads, (...or anyplace else for that matter!) hiking, biking, fly fishing, etc.
...I'm very serious about wildlife & nature photography also! So the mountains are special for me in that regard as well!

...but it is very likely that this is just too impulsive a decision to make right now! A list of company job openings changes & is posted weekly, so I will never have much advance notice, even when the perfectly located job does appear! I can only make my decision based on my financial situation at the time the position is posted and how perfect is the position/location I'm hoping to get! I do miss the Mountains tho!

...oh yeah, I almost forgot, the cost of the move would be On Me also!! Nice huh?

Thanks for reading & I appreciate the information & advice!
