1. A base can "dry out". yes, if ridden or set out in the sun...wax is a hydrocarbon that will eventually evaporate/degrade
2. A base has "pores" that open and close.yes...generally due to the heat of the waxing iron

3. An Extruded base can hold more wax than a Sintered base. ugg... i don't remember...something like one or the other
