REI does free avy seminars from time to time.
So, first of all, the experienced partner in question was me.

Second of all, if you weren't there, you really have no business speaking on the conditions or safety of the area at the time.

Question my decision if you like. I do agree, it is never EVER smart to ride in the back/side country without avy gear. I wouldn't ever tell anyone that they should venture into an area without the bare essentials. That being said, I made a judgement call, based on my knowledge of the area. Have you been in the area in question? There are safe routes back there. The avalanche danger was fairly low that morning. I am not just some dummy taking people into dangerous situations. So, give it a rest please.

Kill is right, if there was a slide we could have been fucked. The advice of everyone is on point. Not trying to argue that, but it is beating a dead horse, as I have already explained all of these things.

As I said, my decision could definitely look questionable. I'm not trying to defend it. Had the conditions been any different that day, I would have made a different decision.

Tunnel creek was a very sad tragedy. I think about it a lot, but the conditions on that day were HORRIBLE for backcountry travel. Nothing like monday. My decision to ride Hollywood can not be compared to the decision to make a tunnel creek run on a day when the avalanche danger was considered "high".
