Carving in springtime?

It's springtime and brown skid marks are starting to show on some parts of the the hills. Yesterday on a steep blue run i had a hard time holding an edge when going across the hill between turns. The edge digs well more than usual but it will still slip on me.

From the lifts looking down my transitions were the ones carving clean and sharp about 3 inches wide but surprisingly the downwards and across the hill between transitions looked messy. Straight carve edge hold between turns are the ones i usually don't have issues with.

Is there a method to get better edge hold in this condition? It was soft pack and slightly slushy by noon at 61 degrees spring weather.
