Years of fire suppression have set up this scenario. Fires that grow large quickly are the norm. Hopefully the structures can be protected and a lot of the fuel gets used up.
That RMNP one is a strange one but natural. I was surprised as anyone that it was still burning. The park had good snow this year.
I hope with this Wolf Creek Pass thing that the burn avoids spots like Gibbs Creek. Where the terrain is super steep but the window to safely ride it is small. It would only get smaller. There are other forested parts of the pass that could definitely use some fuel reduction by a fire.
It does look like we have a few more weeks of this. Hopefully it will also be like last year that when the moisture returned the wildfire season died with it. There were not very many fires after that happened.
