Boarding In Alaska... anybody?
I moved to Alaska this summer and know all thats around here since I have family here and have been researching boarding here, but I have yet to get to board here and I'm more excited to do backcountry boarding. I'm beginner/intermet. boarder - I run blues and am learning the terrain parks ... but really I'd like to know if there is anyone around Fairbanks, AK or ANC that does backcountry or hits the slopes and would like a tag along and can help me smooth out my rough riding (I've got alot to learn but I tend to keep up). Most of my friends and family don't board -- so if there's anyone out there with the knowledge or wants a riding partner -I'd love to get together this season(which seems to be approaching not nearly fast enough).

I'm thinking about moving up there a few years after college. What do you think is the best place to go if you want a decent resort with some mellow powder runs and some real back country. Keep in mind I live in NY so it'll be a massive and quite honestly scary change. I don't plan on riding in the back country until at least a year of riding resort powder and taking some classes. Any suggestions, from what I understand you are the Alaska powder guy.

Thanks. Being in the banks I'm far from Aleyska - one person I know said they go down to do backcountry near Valdez every year. I learned to snow on ice practically -but had a decent time fairing Brighton and Sundance in UT last year. I'm close to CHS (well, close as in 50 miles), so I'll try that this winter. Let me know when you make it up this way I'd love to go boarding with someone who knows the ropes. I definately don't have a network of boarders here yet.

I am at Eielson and I ride here, Birch and will try out Mt. Aurora this year. Being part of an air crew, I am away more than I am here though so I don`t get to ride much and am not that good, I just go to dink around and have some fun to keep the cabin fever from getting me.

Its hard to find anyone to board with since I just got here! I'm even willing to teach a friend and she still wont go! I literally live in a cabin near Ft. WW here ... so yeah I know all about cabin fever.

Yah, I was looking at Alyeska and it looked really good. Does it have a lot of in bounds powder. Also were you describing Alyeska there or the other hills?

 I think the first year there is gonna be like Christmas morning everyday. Going from never having touched real powder to that, crazy. I like the idea of seclusion too, nobody in your way it looks like on those high up powder runs. I'm thinking of taking a trip somewhere next year in North America to get my first real taste of something like that. Thinking Canada or possibly even Park City, have a friend over there.
