Default best airline to get from Tokyo to Sapporo?

What is the cheapest airline to get from Tokyo to Sapporo?
The flight from LAX to Narita is pretty cheap ($800) but when I price out the flight from Tokyo to Sapporo on hipmunk it's another $700. Should I be able to get a better deal than that going to a specific airline's site?

Sigh.... I just did a search on expedia for LA to Sapporo and it came in at $1000.00 total. Airline price vary a lot based on dates of travel but if you're flexible you should be able to find it cheaper than $1500.00. You need to book the flight as 1 flight not 2 segments to save money.

Thanks. I need to stop in Tokyo though for work/friend stuff. Moreso on the way back but need 2 nights pre Hokkaido too. Was mainly wondering if there's some regional cheapo airline that isn't in the main travel search engines. I just found some sites about it (peach, jetstar etc) and will check them out. It's just a headache to figure out which ones have the best deals for bags, etc. Maybe some australian dude who does it all the time knows the best one.

I have always used JAL. this is the busiest air route in the world and a plane leave pretty much every half hour. Tickets are usually around $150

I've used Jetstar both times I've been. The flights are quite cheap and you can add extra luggage when you book for not too much extra. I got return flights with 25kg of luggage for about $150.

Jetstar is in almost all cases the cheapest by a long shot. But they fly out of Narita, which might be a hassle if you live in Tokyo and want to get out to Hokkaido.

Air-Do is a cheapish airline that runs out of Haneda, $100 or so each way if you buy in advance.

I've flown with Peach, Airdo, and Skymark for usually under 10000. Check out SKYMARK

Edit: Peach flies out from Osaka.

Can you say "Kayak?" Have you heard about this cool new "interweb" thing? Check it out!

But really..call the airlines directly. Tell them you found an awesome rate on Kayak or Hipmunk...they'll usually undercut it. Works for hotels, too. We were in Florida for Thanksgiving...got sick of bunking with relatives, so we found a beach-front hotel. They quoted us over $100 a night for a basic room. I totally lied and said "I just saw on Kayak that you had rooms for $53!" He punched around on the computer and said "Oh yes, we can do that!" and gave a BEACHFRONT room for four nights at $53 a night. Cha-ching. Work it, man. Don't be afraid to haggle. You'd be amazed at what they'll do...real cash is better than no cash.
