There a dusting of snow at the top of the noon about a week or two ago. Long gone by now though. Still at least it's starting to get closer to that time
Damn, I get antsy if I'm waiting more than 5 minutes, 10 and I'm probably looking to head home or go hike haha. Every mountain has their quieter lifts though so I've never actually left because of crowds. Though I'm expecting opening weekend at the Remarks to be fairly busy.
My best day last year was probably during the huge early season storm the SI got on a friday, about 35cm had dumped on Coronet that night and it kept snowing all day but visibility was decent. I went over to the T-bar on the far side of the mountain, me and 4-5 others for the first half of the day, tracks literally filling themselves back in within 30 minutes, it was fantastic! Next day was a Saturday and that's the longest I've ever waited in lines, 7-8 minutes for the Chairs or 2-3 for the T-bar, sounds like nothing now hah but when there's fresh to be had feels like forever.
You guys pick up any of the front that just came through? Remarks got puked on and looks like coronet got a nice little start on its base. Hutt only got 3cm so I am a little gutted, picked up the 3 mountain early bird for the cheap price this season, but most weekend is Hutt due to being in Christchurch. Luckily we finally have some waves to surf to keep my mind off the lack of snow....
Not opening until 2nd July but it will certainly help cool the ground and we've fired up the snow guns, another top up like that each week would be ideal for opening day haha.
I'll be at Coronet from the 14th, and Remarkables for their opening day.
Jumped on a sneaky flight here in Franz today, skids nowhere to be seen haha:
Mtruapehu.com was saying that they've had about 15cm over the last couple of days. I think that might be higher up the mountain though, it doesn't look like 15cms on the webcams. But the mountain road is closed at the 13km mark, so they've had a bit.
And Taranaki had snow down to the lodge at 1260m, but not enough to open (they're not quite ready yet anyway).
Basically, we've had a little dump, nothing too serious, but I think its a good start. And we do have 5 weeks yet before we're allowed up there. Not getting worried yet.
Seasons nearly there!!
