Whats your binding setting on your split?
& would you reccomend i make my own split with a kit or get a pre-made one?

PS. when i leave uni im sleeping on all of your couches.
I ride ducky, +-15 with a 22 inch stance for everything. The nice thing about a split is you set your stance to what you want then your bindings mount at 0 on a plate that slides off of pucks that are set to your stance. The plate then attaches to the middle of the ski's for skinning. I would totally recommend getting a pre fab split. The Voile models are the least expensive and are solid backcountry boards. If you can spend a little more, Prior and Venture make quality production splits, Neversummer does custom (like mine) boards for a bit more, but worth every penny imo. A DIY will work, but over all I think you end up saving maybe $200-$300 USD vs buying a Voile Mojo. Having an inside edge on your ski's is key when side hilling on steep open slopes. Which in NZ it looks like there is a lot of. The nice thing is a split board rides just like a regular old solid board. It just weighs a pound or two more because of the interface.

Thanks for the info, i was thinking about the inside edge problem, im sure i could make one but that would take alot of time and probably be no where near as good as a pre fab'd one. Next year when i get my next 1k interest free loan loan for 'travelling to uni' i'll definatly look into a few models.

Would you reccommend those Spark bindings or a stock snowboard binding?

If you can spend the $$$ I would go with the Spark R&D binders. They are nice. They are pricey though, so I didn't end up getting a pair last season. The standard Voile set up works fine. The thing that is nice with the Spark binders is that you shave a pound or so of weight off of the set up. Which is a big deal, especially on the up track.
