FOBP 2012-13 Avalanche Classes - Snowboarding Forum

FOBP free Basic Avalanche Awareness class dates are up! First one is next week. We do a free on snow day in February, you must attend a classroom session to sign up for this. There are a few more classroom dates that will be added. Our Facebook page will carry the updates along with our webpage. I will update this thread accordingly with the class schedule as it evolves.

If you are in the Colorado Front Range and are interested in learning about traveling safely in the backcountry. This is a great place to start. Many members of this forum have attended both our classroom and on snow sessions. Get educated.

Friends of Berthoud Pass 2012-13 avalanche classes

FOBP is pleased to continue our free series of avalanche awareness classes for the 2012-13 season. We will provide backcountry travelers with a classroom overview of avalanche awareness, avoidance, rescue and forecasting methods and skills.

Topics such as route selection, hazard minimization, best practices, preparedness and terrain analysis will be covered in a 2-hour classroom presentation.

The course is free and open to the public. Donations are kindly accepted. No RSVP is needed.

The class runs from 7:00pm until approximately 9:00pm.

Full-day on-snow sessions at Berthoud Pass will be conducted in February 2013. You must attend a classroom presentation in order to register for the on-snow.

Wednesday Jan 16 – Denver, Oriental Theater
Wednesday, January 23 - Bent Gate Mountaineering, Golden
Monday Jan 28 – Denver, Oriental Theater
Wednesday, January 30 - CU-Boulder, location tba, Boulder
On Snow days. Saturday-Sunday February 9-10.

The free class at the Bentgate is this Thursday. Don't forget to bring the beer.

A date has been added in December and January. One at the Go Lite store in Boulder and another at the Wilderness Exchange in Denver.

We have done classes in the Springs. Unfortunately this year we were not able to get a space for the class at the time we were scheduling classes. No more classes are going to be added this season. Hopefully next year we'll get to do a Springs classroom session.

Free class tomorrow January 9th at the Wilderness Exchange in Denver.

I have updated the schedule with our on snow days. This year will be held over the weekend of February 9th-10th. This is also free.
