Went and hiked to the summit of Timpanogos then rode the permanent snowfield here in UT.

All and all it was a fun day just around 15 miles hiked so it wasn't that far. Downfall was I did all of my hiking in Chacos. I learned snow and Chacos do not mix. Next time crampons....

Nice work Vols! Stellar scenery and I'm sure it was a great way to beat the SLC summer heat.

timp is extremely dangerous no doubt. so tempting though. the most majestic mountain in the wasatch.

How long does that hike usually take. Spent all my 21 years of life in Utah and still have never done this hike.

I am probably going back next weekend maybe if anyone wants to go so I can for sure get turns in September. It is only like 15 miles round trip so it isn't bad. I would say it took 4ish hours to get to the summit, but I took my time and took a ton of photos.

Wow great shots hope to be able to hike\ride that before we leave to come back home to Minnesota next July, if avalanche danger is "Low to Moderate" is avy gear and training required? Unfortunetly I won't be able to afford full out avy gear this winter, my goal is to save up next summer and get everything I need(including split board setup) so I'm ready for Winter of 2012-2013.

So if it can be safely done in an average July without Avy gear, how much for you to guide me, I'm in good physical shape and backpacked almost 200 miles this summer\fall so am somewhat familiar with summer\spring\fall back country gear?

Let me know I am always up for a quick Timp ride. Fortunately by July the snow has settled and the only thing you truly have to worry about is a wet slide, due to warming. I didn't have any avy gear on when I hit it due to that.

Haha I just love to hike I would never ask for money. There are a couple places that have snow on them still in July that are fun to hit. How long are you planning on being in Utah for? I met up with some people from Minnesota that were hiking Timp my last time up. It took them a lot longer than me due to the change in altitude. Super friendly people who said they were hiking 50+ miles a day back home so they could get ready to do Timpanogos. I thought that was awesome they flew out here just to go hiking. You will see how weird some people are out here. There are tons of people that live in the SLC valley that have never even been into the Wasatch before.
