Default 2014 Raptor - Burton Diode or Salomon Quantum

Anyone ridden these bindings yet, any opinions? Do you guys think that the new diode HB will be less prone to damage? Any bindings I should add to my list?

Thanks,

Chris.

I really like my diodes. Very responsive, very light weight.

There have been some damage reports on the highbacks but lots of us haven't had problems.

Lots of folks like genesis too

I am leaning towards the diodes now that they took all that rubber/plastic off the HB but am still a little concerned about hearing 1 year multiple HB breaks, the next multiple baseplate breaks.

Anyone have eperience with the salomon shadowfit system? Is it all gimmic or is there any noticable difference?

Hubby did demo the quantum and was very satisfied with them, comfy and very responsive, solid bindings; he will get a pair. I did demo the women's equivalent and found them also very responsive. If it's due to their heelcup/baseplate/whatever design I can't judge...

Looks like the 2014 Diodes come with quite a different HB than the previous years. Anyone know if there's any carbon fibre left in there or if it's some other composite now? The Burton website says it's made of a 'high-grade material matrix that harnesses a single-component nylon' - not sure what that means.

Trying to figure out if the HB is still susceptible to breakage like the previous ones.

I just got back from messing around with the diodes at my local store. The high back definitely doesn't feel or look like CF. Seemed more plasticy to me if that makes sense. Surprisingly flexible when twisted, but still very stiff front to back. Doesn't seem like this one would break easily, it's not brittle like cf is.

On a side note though, these things creak like some cheapo plastic bindings. Just doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. These were going to be my bindings this year on an "upgrade" from my aging cartels. Think I'll stick with my currents for a while.

The new hammock strap is kinda cool though, you can really crank that thing down and it never felt harsh anywhere. If I could throw a hammock strap on my old cartels I think I'd have the perfect bindings.....

I'm not a fan of Salomon's shadow fit tech, so I'd vote for pretty much anything else whether Burton Diode, Flux DM, Union Charger, Now Drive, Ride El Hefe, etc...
